HEATH FIRES
TROOPS SUBDUE LARGE OUTBREAKS. British Official Wireless (Received June 25, 5.5 p.m.) RUGBY, June 23. An extensive heath fire near Aidershot, which was ultimately subdued by troops equipped with gas masks and fire fighting appliances, was first detected by the occupants of the Royal Air Force aeroplanes who dropped a message to troops at rifle practice. The airmen later assisted in directing the fire fighting operations. Heath fires also occurred in other parts of the country and there were one or two country house fires which, owing to the shortage of water, got beyond the control of fire brigades. Ten cottages in the picturesque Worcestershire village of Broadway also were destroyed by fire.
