PENNY FOR THE KING
BUT WHAT DID HE SPEND IT ON? LONDON, June 14. “How do you spell birfday, nurse?” a small boy asked in a London hospital. He explained that he had to spell the word correctly, as he was writing to send the King his one and only penny as a birthday present. The nurse told a sister, and the sister told the matron, who told a great personage. As a result, the note and penny actually reached the King. A messenger from the Palace to-day brought a big card from the King, thanking the boy for his generous gift. The child was not impressed with this great honour, but whispered, “He did not say what he spent the penny on!”
