“We have come to satisfactory arrangements to give 100 men permanent work for six months,” said Mr A. Manhire, chairman of the finance committee of the Waimakariri Trust, who waited on the Unemployment Board at its meeting in Wellington last week, and who returned to Christchurch Dn Monday. The men are to be selected from the relief workers who are already employed by the trust, and the board will subsidise the trust in the payment of their wages. They will work for five days a week and the men will be taken off the unemployed list altogether. A start will be made in a week or two, as soon as the engineer can make the necessary arrangements. The trust will continue to employ some hundreds jof relief workers under the present scheme.”
