A GOOD EXHIBITION SOUTH END BEATS ' TRINITY Clean, fast and open hockey characterised the senior men’s game, South End v. Trinity at the Park on Saturday, a performance vastly superior to last Saturday’s game. The first goal went to Trinity, when O'Connor secured the ball from a penalty bully and sent In a snappy goal. Trinity immediately took up the attack carrying the ball into the opposing 25, but South End’s defence was sound and after a series of lively exchanges South End again carried the ball into the Trinity circle, but fast work by Renton saved the situation. South End repeatedly assaulted Trinity’s goal, but the defence was flawless, Cowles in particular being prominent. Trinity immediately took up the attack but S. Hughes, South End, broke through to lead a promis-ing-looking movement into Trinity’s circle, but the attempt was again foiled by Cowles. Trinity retaliated and Hahn collected the ball from a ruck and sent in a fast goal. Not to be beaten, South End gathered in the ball, combining well, enabling J. Davie to rattle in another goal about two minutes later. Again attacking, South End carried play into the opposing circle, but an attempt by F. O’Connor missed the goal. From an exciting encounter outside Trinity’s circle, S. Hughes centred to E. Hawkey, who smashed in a splendid goal. V. Hahn, Trinity, was responsible for several determined rushes, but owing to lack of support from the remainder of the team was unable to make the grade. Trinity was attacking strongly when the final whistle sounded with the score: South End 3, Trinity 1. Messrs L. Hasell and A. W. Stead refereed. In a one-sided contest in the junior grade, South End defeated Cambridge by six goals to nil. The score is no indication of the game, for Cambridge could muster only five players, while South End fielded a full team, Messrs A. Hawkey and G. Hughes refereed. Women’s Games. A high standard of hockey was Witnessed in both women’s games, play being very keen, particularly among the juniors, in whose game no score was registered. A fine contest was also seen in the sneior game. In a splendid clean and fast game, Wesley drew with Rata, one goal being registered on each side. Though it was Wesley’s first game of the season, the standard of play was higher than that of any game last season. M. Coutts scored Wesley’s goal, while Rata’s goal was registered by I. Mackie. In the junior women’s game, West End, a team comprised for the greater part of High School girls, new to the game, acquitted themselves well, holding Rata, a more experienced team, to a draw, no score being registered. Mr L. Davies refereed both women's games.
