WEDDING IN LONDON

NEW ZEALAND-BORN BRIDE. Considerable interest was occasioned by the wedding on April 5, at St. Margaret’s, Westminster, cf Mr Frank Hubert Onslow, third son of the late Rev. M. R. S. Onslow, R.M., of Langford Court, Taunton, and of Mrs Onslow, of Fitzhead, near Taunton, with the Hon. Lena Barbara Joan Ogilvie-Grant, only daughter of Lord and Lady Strathspey, formerly of Wellington, New Zealand. A great crowd assembled outside the church on an afternoon of brilliant sunshine, and inside there was an imposing number of guests who completely filled the nave. The ceremony was notable for its beautiful music, which was sung with almost the full choir (St. Margaret’s has one of the best in London) and for the dignified progress of the bridal procession, whose slow pace was set by an officer of the church. Lord Strathspey was with his daughter, and at wide intervals followed the retinue —two pages, three little girls, and six grown-up bridesmaids. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. C. V. Camplin-Cogan, assisted by the Rev. H. Wadman. The bride looked charming in her Tudor gown of oystertinted satin, with a square neck to the close-fitting bodice, embroidered in a thistle and rose design with silver and crystal beads. The full skirt, gathered at the waist, was finished with a thick girdle of the satin. Her long Court train, depending from her shoulders, was embroidered with a large spray of tnistles in silver thread and crystal beads, and over it fell a lovely veil of antique Limerick lace (lent by Lady Nina Knowles, her aunt.'. This was secured with a coronet of orange blossom and pearls. Her flowers were a sheaf of arum lilies. The two small pages, Masters Seafield and Trevor Grant, sons of Commander Duncan Grant, wore kilts of the Grant tartan. The three little girls —Misses Anthea Onslow, June Ryland and June Wadman—were in Tudor frocks of pale forget-me-not blue satin, with Juliet caps of silver lace. The six grown-up bridesmaids: Miss Mary C. Onslow (sister of the bridegroom), Miss Evelyn Camplin-Cogan. Miss Sylvia Evans (a cousin of the bride from New Zealand). Miss Biddy Brook-Jackson, Miss An.ie Grant and Miss Eve Grant, were in Tudor dresses of forget-me-not blue satin, the long tight-fitting sleeves having wide cuffs, bound with silver. They had high tiara-shaped headdresses of blue satin, with short black veils of

pleated silver net. Each carried an ivory backed prayer book, the' gift of the bridegroom. Mr W. Collett-Mason, Bth Hussars, was best man. As the wedding procession left the church, Pipe-Major Macdor aid Murray from Speyside, played the Grants’ gathering tune, “Stand Fast, Craigellachie.’ ’He was a resplendent figure in bright “Skye” blue cloth coat, with large gold buttons, with tilt and sash of Murray tartan. He also played at the reception at 7 Grosvenor Place, where Lady Strathspey welcomed a great number of guests. The bride and bridegroom left by motor-car for their honeymoon tour, which is to be spent in L ornwall and the Scilly Isles. Lady Strathspey chose a two-piece of a warm apricot shade, with black hat, and she carried a bouquet of apricot-hued loses mingled with blue flowers. The young couple will have a country life at their Somerset home, near Taunton They are both very fond of outdoor pursuits, and they will have a busy time with their poultry farm. New Zealanders who were invited to the wedding were:— The Hi~h Commissioner ler New Zealand, Sir Walter and Lady Baynham, Mr and Mrs C. J. Wray, Captain T. E Donne, C.M.G., Mrs A. M. Michie, Mrs James Hay, Mrs Burrell, Miss Florence Studholme. Mrs and Miss Sweet, and Miss Stack.
