SUMMER TIME.
To the Editor or " The Tlrnaru Herald " Sir,—Mr R. McKeen, M P , Wellington South, is on the right track in seeking to establish daylight saving all the year round. The principle Is sound, therefore why not apply it to winter, when daylight is scarce, rather than to summer when, even under the Act, it is running to waste. Obviously if the clock be permanently advanced by 30 or 60 minutes, unless safeguarded by workable restrictions, the people's inherent hankering for late hours would quickly necessitate a • tables generally so as to suit our imaginary needs. When a measure of this kind becomes law its benefits to the whole community will be so pronounced and superior to an; daylight saving yet tried, that we shall wonder why it was not tried years ago.—l am, etc., C H. MASON. Timaru, December 11.
