BASIC WAGE
REDUCTION IN NEW SOUTH WALES. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received Otcober 20, 9.50 p.m.) SYDNEY, October 20. The State basic wage for males today was reduced by 2/- and females by 1/- weekly to £3/8/6 and £l/16/respectively, in accordance with the lower cost of living. The union officials are incensed. They declare they expected the Industrial Commission would grant a slight increase. OTHER SIDE OF THE PICTURE. FEDERAL MP.'s INCREASE OWN SALARIES. There was a surprise move in the House of Representatiyes when by 44 votes to 16. the Members had a provision included in the Financial Relief Bill, whereby they increase their salaries by £75 a year to £825. The Labour members voted solidly with the Government Party. The extra cost annually will *be nearly £IO,OOO. which is causing considerable public indignation.
