LATE MR J. A. SHAND
A MILITARY FUNERAL. By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, October 19. A military funeral was accorded yesterday to the lute Mr James Arthur • land. The pall-bearers Included Mr J. Spence (secretary of the Wellington T 0.A.) and Colonel Mabin (South African Veterans). The firing party was supplied by the permanent forces training at the Cadre Trenthum camp, and was in charge of Staff-Sergeant-Major J S. King. The Hon. E. Ransom rep :se:-.ted Members of the Cabinet, Mr P. A. de la Perrelle the Members of the House of Representatives and Mr A. W. Mulligan the Ministerial private secretaries. The South African War Veterans Association was officially represented, and also many oth-r associations connected with both the South African ar.d the Great War. Bugler F. C. Chegwin sounded “Last Post.” and the “Reveille.” Members of the R.S.A. filed past, dropping red poppies on the casket. The services were conducted by the Revs. H. E. K. Fry, D. C. Br.tes and ' ’ Bramwell Scott. . Numerous floral tributes were received.
