FIRE IN AUCKLAND
DAMAGE ESTIMATED AT £IO,OOO. By Telegraph Press Association AUCKLAND. October 19. Damage estimated at £IO,OOO was done by fire In the premises of Messrs Wingate and Coy., Ltd., hardware merchants. Queen Street, at about 4.30 this morning. The back part of the building was a mass of flames when the Brigade arrived. but by strenuous work the outbreak was confined to the packing room and basement. The packing room, piled with coils of rope and other merchandise, was completely gutted. The flames reached some of the interior walls and charred them, and the intense heat and smoke also caused damage inside the shop. The insurance is £25.000 on the building and stock held by the Southern Union.
