THE BULLER SEAT
LABOUR’S CHOICE FALLS ON MR P. C. WEBB. By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, October 17. The National Executive of the Labour Party issued the following statement to-day:— “A meeting of representatives of all Trade Unions and Labour Party branches in the Buller electorate was held at Westport during the week-end. The Hon. Mark Fagan, ML.C., represented the National Executive of the Party. The question of a successor to the late Mr H. E. Holland, as Labour candidate for Buller, was fully discussed. It was decided to submit four names for the consideration of the National Executive, with whom, according to the Labour Party’s Constitution, rests the final decision in respect to the selection of a candidate at a by-election. The representatives present unanimously resolved to support whichever of the four nominees would Se selected by the National Executive. The four names forwarded were. Messrs P. C. Webb, J. Smeaton, R. Holland and J. Thom. The National Lxecutive met this morning. Two of the men whose names were submitted by a Westport meeting were not available as candidates. Mr P. C. Webb was selected, and will contest the seat in the interests of Labour.”
