SPECIAL DISPLAY WEEK COMMITTEE MEETS Arrangements for the Special Display Week, and In particular with the community sing, were made at a meeting of the committee of control yesterday afternoon. There were present— Messrs A. N. Hancock (presiding'. R. C. Thompson, W. Searle. W. F. Evans. D. B. Muir and W. H. McMillan. A letter agreeing to conduct the singing, was received from Mr R. A. Malcolm, of Christchurch. The question of the judging of the window displays was raised, but it was decided to ask the Rev. Father Outtriin, S.M., if he could arrange for three visitors to the town for the St. Joseph's jubilee to undertake the duties. The date and time of judging was left to the judges, providing that the butchers’ displays are judged on Friday evening. ANOTHER TUG-OF-WAR The suggestion that the pulls in the unemployed grade of the recent Municipal Band Tug-of-War Carnival should be decided on Saturday has been made by people Interested in the Band. TENNIS. At the official opening of the St. Joseph’s Tennis Club there were present visitors from most of the local clubs. Friendly sets were played during the afternoon. In declaring the courts officially open the Rev. Father Outtrim. S.M., welcomed the visitors and said he hoped that a friendly spirit would be engendered between St. Joseph's and kindred clubs. The club would be concentrating on developing the younger players in the coming year and to that end it had entered a junior team only in the Temuka Town and Country competitions. He wished all players a successful season and then drove the first ball over the net. Afternoon tea was served. COMING OF AGE PARTY. For the celebration of the coming of age of Miss Rona Davis, daughter of Mr and Mrs J. B. Davis, Temuka, guests from Christchurch. Dunedin, Ashburton, Timaru and surrounding districts on Friday evening assembled in the Druids’ Hall, where a party was held. Musical Items and dancing comprised the programme for the evening. Songs were contributed by Miss W. Ives, and a pianoforte solo by Miss J. Cooper. After supper. Mr Davis presented the guest of the evening with a solid brass key. Mr Blackmore. on behalf of those present, thanked Mr and Mrs Davis for the very pleasant evening, and wished Miss Davis the best of health and happiness in the future. Mr Davis replied. Music for the dancing was supplied by Mr S. Cross, and Miss Isabel Swann (Christchurch) played extras. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss P. Splllane and Mr A. Cain. PERSONAL. Miss C. Chapman returned to Reefton yesterday after spending a few days In Temuka. Miss D. Clark, Dunedin, is the guest of Miss J. Cooper, Temuka. Misses R. McOillen and M. MacFarlane have returned to Temuka from a holiday In Wellington. Dr. A. S. Mclnnes has returned from Dunedin. Miss Joyce Powdrill, Hawera. is the guest of Mrs Stone-Wigg, Waihi School, Winchester. NOTES. The Temuka Bowling Club's official opening will be held on Thursday at 2.30 p.m.. and the opening of the ladies’ section will be held on the following day. Intending members and visitors are invited to attend. For St. Joseph's Convent Jubilee preparations are practically complete. Pontifical High Mass will be held at 11 a.m. to-morrow, followed by the celebrations In the afternoon and the children’s picnic and grand ball on the Thursday. W. J.
