August has been an unusually dry month so far, and farmers were beginning to hope for a break in the long dry spell. However, on Thursday a cold wind from the south-east was soon followed by heavy rain, a fall of 33 points being recorded. As the fall was not accompanied by snow on the back hills, it will have a beneficial effect on the ground and on crops in general. Lambing is in progress, and farmers in most cases are very satisfied with results.
