GRIMM BROTHERS
Jakob and Wilhelm Grimm were tw r o very learned brothers, especially the former, whose erudition was stupendous. They lived in the same house and worked closely for many hours a day, caring for little else, and their affairs were usually in a state of disorder.
One day an elderly aunt suggested that one of them should marry a wife who would look after the house for both. For more than a week they threw down their pens to discuss the tiresome question as to which should take the step, and at length decided that the duty lay with Jakob, the elder. Thereupon the aunt introduced a bonny girl of twenty-two.
However, when it came to courting, Jakob was hopeless. He knew not how to go about it, and Wilhelm, in trying to help him out, fell in love with the girl himself. Feeling great contrition. Wilhelm approached his brother and confessed he had broken their pact, only to find, however, that Jakob was relieved.
So Wilhelm married the girl, who proved an excellent housewife to them both, and Jakob became as fond of his little nephews as if they had been his own children. Other child en ./ill ever remember the two brothers as the authors of a wonderf|il book of fairy tales.
