CHALLENGE TO WCILD STARS. TOLAN PREFERS BUSINESS TO SPORT. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received June 25, 6.35 p.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, June 24. It is understood Rufe Naylor, Robertson’s manager, has sent challenges to Tolan, Metcalfe, Wyckoff and several other sprinters, who, it is thought, might turn professional for a spring exhibition with a thousand dollars side-bet. From Detroit, Tolan definitely declined. He indicated he intends to hold a civil service position, and had no intenton of running again soon, either as an amateur or professional. Robertson has been acclimatising himself since arrival, and will undertake no serious training for at least ten days.
