Om-WALKER CUP RACE. WON BY C. W. HOLMES. The annual harrier race for the OrrWalker Cup was run on Saturday over a seven-mile course, starting from Caroline Bay. The weather was dull, and the ground was a trifle sticky as a result of drizzling rain in the morning. A field numbering 43 wc despatched at 3 o'clock, and proceeded out from the Bay towards ~ -ithfield. After passing the Freezing Works the course turns towards the west, and some hard running is experienced round to Page’s Road, thence nek to the B-~ The race was won by C. W. Holmes (Timaru Harrier Club), who finished 7sec in front of R. Barlow (Presbyterian), with G. McKlrdy, another Presbyterian representative, 20sec later. The next three to finish wore all members of the Timaru Club. W. Taylor, last year’s winner was thirteenth. Holmes starts off well, ut at one stage was headed off • McKirdy. who also ran strongly. Over the latter stages, however, Holmes made up the leeway and breasted the tape about 20 yards ahead of Bari ,r, who had been able to oust McVircV from second place. Holmes’ time of 36 minutes w r as excellent considering the heavy going. The teams’ raCu was foil ~.t out between the Timaru and Fees’.vterian Clubs, and resulted in the former having its third successive win.
