PAGEANT SPOILT BY RAIN
DARING DISPLAY IN BAD WEATHER. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received June 25, 7.25 p.m.) LONDON, June 24. A downpour of rain spoilt a huge programme of open air functions and enforced the cancellation of the King’s review of the London Territorials at Hyde Park. His Majesty, regretting the cancellation, paid a tribute to the patriotism of the men and their employers. He hoped to see the parade at an early future. The sporting events abandoned included the Queen's Club finals, while the air force pageant at Hendon was robbed of much attractiveness. Although the programme was curtailed three Furies made a courageous display. Despite poor visibility, they soared through pelting rain at 200 miles an hour, with wings barely thirty feet apart, rolling, looping and zooming. They were often invisible among the storm clouds. Similarly, although bad visibility enhanced their difficulties of keeping distance, nine aeroplanes, linked by cables to which streamers were attached, exhibited some complicated manoeuvres.
