WORLD LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE. ROSS DEFEATS CANZONERI. United Press Association—By Electrlo Telegraph—Copyright CHICAGO, June 23. Barney Ross, of Chicago, won the world lightweight title on Tb-iday night, securing a decision over Tony CanZoneri, of New York, In ten rounds, TIMARU BOXING ASSOCIATION. A meeting was held last week of the General Committee of the Timaru Boxing Association. Present: Messrs Lamborn (chairman), Taylor, Best, Campbell, Dineen, Stewart, McGlashan, Latvrenee, Segar, Shea, McKenna, Triggs, and Angland (hon. secretary). A letter was received from the Boys’ Welfare League, advising that the League intended including boxing amongst its activities in connection with the work of unemployed boys, and asking if the Association could assist with a set of second-hand boxing gloves.—The Committee was unanimous that the League was deserving of every possible support, and the application was referred to the Equipment Committee for favourable consideration. Applications for professional matches were received from Eddie Parker, Harry Gunn. W. Carey, and Colin Jones. It was decided that for .the next tourney, to be held on July 20, a professional contest be held between Eddie Parker (Timaru), and Billy Sullivan (Hastings). The Christchurch Association wrote inviting a South Canterbury team to visit Christchurch in July. The Committee decided to accept the invitation, subject to the date being suitable. The selection of the South Canterbury team was left to the Match Committee. Messrs C. R. Orr-Walker and J. F. K. Jamieson wrote forwarding donations to the Association's fund.—lt was unanimously decided that letters of thanks be sent for this generous support. The secretary presented a report covering the recent tourney.—The report was adopted. On the motion of Messrs Best and McGlashan it was decided to place on record the Committee’s appreciation of Mr J. Stewart’s work as referee in the recent Campbell-Nicol contest. On the motion of the chairman a vote of thanks was passed to all the officials for their efficient control of the tourney.
