THE CAPLESTON EXPLOSION
ACCUSED GUILTY ON -ALARM’’ CHARGE. By Telegraph—Press Association GREYMOUTH. June 8. In the Supreme Court, before Mr Justice Blair to-day, two men named James McLay Wright and Arthur Lewis Schroder, were charged with doing wilful damage on May 21st to the dwelling house of Joseph Nohra at Capleston, by an explosion, whilst Nohra and three other persons were within; that with intent to intimidate and annoy Nohra, they damaged Nohra’s dwelling by explosion; and that with intent to intimidate and annoy Nohra, they attempted to alarm him by discharging explosives adjacent to his dwelling. Both accused were defended by Mr T. F Brosnan. The hearing lasted all yesterday and to-day The jury retired at 4.10 p.m., returning at 7.30 with a verdict of not guilty on two counts, but that Schroder and Wright were guilty on the third charge re attempting to alarm Nohra. Schroder was discharged, and Wright was remanded for sentence to-morrow
