WHARFAGE AND FREIGHT ON CARS 8y TelegraDO—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, June 8. The wharfage on cars at Picton, and freight charges for shipping them from Picton to Wellington, were discussed at a meeting of the executive of the South Island Motor Union tonight. Mr Mackley, General Manager of Railways, wrote that the Railways Board could not reduce the wharfage charges for cars at Picton. The Union Steamship Company wrote that it was Investigating the possibility of reducing freight charges for cars between Picton and Blenheim. —'The letter was received, members remarking that It sounded more hopeful than some previous letters. It was decided to refer the letters to the Canterbury Automobile Association, with a request that they seek the aid of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce and t*>e Motor Traders’ Associatioine Auckland movemeu,. The Marlborough Automobile Association wrote endorsing the action taken by Christchurch motorists in informing the New Zealand Automobile Association Incorporated, that the Association thought that, in the interests of all clubs and associations, the executiv committee should be given power to take such steps as it deemed desirable to combat any action by the Auckland Auto Association that might be subversive of the interests of the North and South Island Motor Unions.
