WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
HUNTER BRANCH. There were 25 members present at the monthly meeting of the. Hunter Women’s Institute, presided over by Mrs Morrison. After the usual business had be«n conducted, Mesdames Cooper and Wallace were elected to represent the branch at, the .annual meeting of "he Canterbury Federation in Geraldine on April 13. Good entries were received for the competit ; ons. For the best bottle of preserved fru't, Mrs A. Robinson secured fir-t place, and Mrs E. Neal spc-. ond. For something made from a flour bag, some excellent articles were exhibited, a child’s frock, mad? by Mrs Turner, being voted first, and a toilet set by Miss B. Anstey second. A novel competition was won by Mrs Morrison, the prifce being presented by Mrs Wallace. ' Afternoon tea was served by the ho' te ses. Mrs Wallace, M ss Feathers, and Miss H. Turner, after which members indulged in folk dancing. The meeting concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
