OTIPUA.

WOMEN'S INSTITUTE. The third annual meeting of the Otipua Women's Institute was held on Wednesday. There was a good attendance. Before commencing the usual business, Miss Withel (president), gave an account of the takings at the recent social, in aid of the Relief Funds, which amounted to £2l. She also read a letter from Mrs Turner Williams, Havelock North, thanking the Institute for a previous donation. A vote of thanks was pasesd to the hall committee, for a donation of 25/to the funds. A comprehensive report, of the year’s work was read by Miss Newbegin hon. secretary. This was considered very satisfactory, and Miss Newbegin, who is retiring from the position, was thanked for the good work she had done for the Institute.

The young people are showing a greater interest in the w T ork, and it is pleasing to note that many of them have joined the committee. The following have taken office for the ensuing year:—Miss Withel (president) re-elected; vice-presidents, Mrs B. E. Evans and Mrs Vincent; secretary, Miss Cecil Talbot; treasurer, Miss Ada Black salestable, Mrs Lunham; committee, Mesdames Mclnnes, Rapsy, McTague, Godwin and Misses Watson. Smith, Quigley, Linton, Stowell and Davison.

Mrs Simmonds and Mrs Vincent, were appointed as 'delegates to attend the Canterbury Provincial Federation at Geraldine.

After tea had been served, Mrs Elder Waituna, who is the pioneer of the Women’s Institutes in the South Island, gave a most interesting talk on Institutes in Scotland, and of the work done by them during the war. Mrs Elder also gave a demonstration in tray-making. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Elder.

Mrs W. Hoare and Miss Gilmour, Fairview, were welcomed as new members.
