FIRES.
DWELLING DESTROYED. By Telegraph—Press Association HASTINGS, March 19. A five-roomed house, owned by Mr Frank E. Smith, Hastings, and occupied by J. Lucas, was totally destroyed by fire at 3 o’clock this morning. Mr Lucas and family, sleeping in a tent outside, were awakened by the noise of the flames. The origin is unknown. The house was insured for £750, and the furniture for £250.
DWELLING DESTROYED. By Telegraph—Press Association NAPIER, March 19. A dwelling on Simla Terrace, owned and occupied by Mr L. M. Rankin, was totally destroyed by fire last evening. Owing to the alarms being out of action by the earthquake, an alarm was received by motor car, and the Brigade arrived to find the house .completely lost.
