FIRE IN MINE WORKS.
TOTAL DESTRUCTION THREATENED. United Press Association—By Electrlo Tel ©graph—Copyright (Received March 18, 7.10 p.m.) BRISBANE, March 18. The Mount Morgan mine works are threatened with destruction by a fire which begun near the smelter binns on Monday night. The hose pipes were out of order owing to long Idleness and the mine pumps required replacements. A strong wind sprang up when the fire-fighters appeared to be getting the upper hand, and drove the flames into the woodwork in all directions. The water supply rapidly became exhausted. A large crude oil tank and concentrators are in the path of the fire, which, if it jumps the break that has been made, will wipe out the works completely.
