He was put ashore at Pitcalm Island, and was brought to Auckland by the Tainui. Craig was sentenced to a fortnight’s imprisonment to-day. Alexander Harvey, aged 32, stowed away on the Niagara, which arrived from Sydney. He was fined £7/10/-, and time in which to pay was refused. TOBACCO COMPANY’S AFFAIRS. Mr Justice Herdman to-day made an order for winding up by the Court of the Empire Tobacco Corporation, Ltd., saying: “I think the conduct of the company's affairs prior to liquidation require investigation.” ABSCOND FROM PRISON FARM. Two absconders from Weraroa— Charles Herbley and James William Burton —both 175, arrested on Saturday, were charged this morning with breaking and entering the New Zealand Express Coy.’s premises at Palmerston North and stealing money and an electric torch. They were remanded till March 17. SALUTARY SENTENCES. By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 9. “This kind of thing must stop,” said Mr Justice Herdman, sentencing three youths—Robit Rikit, Herbert Williams and Maurice Edward Weston —for assault with intent to rob, and breaking, entering and theft. The Judge said the prisoners entered a taxi, drove round Auckland and then seized upon the taxi-driver, trying to throttle and rob him. Next they broke into a house, one wearing a mask. Another struck a man lying abed.

Williams and Weston, who are already in the Borstal, were sentenced to detention afterwards for three years’ in a prison camp. Rikit got two years’ reformative treatment.
