ANNUAL MEETING OP MEMBERS. By Telegraph—Press Association ROTORUA, February 19. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Press Association to-day, Mr E. Abbey Jones presiding, members passed a resolution sympathising with the sufferers in the Hawke’s Bay earthquake, and decided to remit all subscriptions due from the papers affected, amounting approximately to £1350 for the year. The annual report and balance sheet were adopted. The meeting approved of a resolution protesting against the attitude of the New Zealand Cricket Council, in refusing to grant recognition to the Association’s representative in the reporting of the New Zealand cricket team's matches in England. Messrs C. Stanley Smith and W. Easton were re-elected directors. It was resolved that the next meeting of the Association be held in Auckland. A presentation of a substantial cheque was made to the retiring manager, Mr W. H. Atack, to whose ability and fidelity many tributes were paid. Mr A. M. Burns, general manager of the Christchurch “Press” Company, was to-day elected chairman of the board of directors for the ensuing year. Mr Bums was for seventeen years on the staff of the Press Association in Wellington and Cable Bay, Nelson, having joined as a cadet. He left the Association’s services to take up the position of sub-editor on the Christchurch “Press,” from which he rose to the managerial chair. Those present were:—Messrs E. Earle (“Dominion,” Wellington), A. McNicol (“News,” Dannevirke), H. Crawford (“Advocate,” Whangarei), A. L. Muir (“Herald*” Gisborne), P. Bond (“Star,” Hawera), R. B. Bell (“Guardian,” Ashburton), R. J. Gilmour (“Times,” Invercargill). Permission to attend as nonmembers was extended to Messrs J. Montgomery and P. Selig (Christchurch), W. H. Atack (former manager), Vamham (New Plymouth), G. C. Codlin (Auckland), W. Blundell and E. A. Blundell (Wellington).
