SWIMMING.

WEST END CLUB. A large and enthusiastic crowd of spectators was present at the West End Baths on Wednesday evening, when the Swimming Club staged a further series of weekly events. The second race for the West End Ratepayers Association’s Challenge Cup was swum over a distance of 200 yards. D. Elder proved the winner, with J. Richards second and E. Guildford third. There is one more race to swim to decide the first holder of this trophy over a course of 440 yards. This race will be swum next week, when the Club holds its annual carnival. The placlngs to date are:—D. Elder 5 points, Miss A. Keen 3 points, J. Richards 2 points. With 3 points for a win, two for a second place, and one for third place, the last race should prove an exciting event. A junior event, 89 2-3 yards, was won by J. Duncan, with E. Thompson second and Errol Darby third. Duncan’s performance with a handicap of 4secs, can be classed as good. Nine competitors essayed the diving event, which was won by L. Hunt, the winner and F. Thompson having to take an extra plunge before the judges gave a decision. A dual relay race over 66 2-3 yards resulted in a dead heat between John Duncan, A. Macdonald, and. L. Hunt and Miss P.
