CRISIS LOOMING IN N.S.W.
GOVERNMENT’S CHALLENGE TO EMPLOYERS. United Press Association—By Electric Telegrarh—Copyright (Received December 30, 12.20 a.m.) SYDNEY, December 29. Despite recent protests by the employers against the proposed reintroduction of the 44-hour week, with pay for 48 hours, also the abolition of rationing, the State Ministry has decided that both shall operate on January sth. It is estimated that 26,000 employees will be dismissed. The employers assert that there is only a certain amount of money available for wages and license, and the alternative is wholesale dismissals, which will take effect the moment the Government’s proclamation is made.
