PERSONAL.
Mr J. Whitcombe, of Wellington, Is at present staying in Timaru. Mr I. C. Miller, Gore, and Mr A. W. Ellis, Timaru, left yesterday on an extended tour of the North Island. Mr James T. Tavener, of Westport, has been advised that he has passed the final in the pharmaceutical examination.
The Rev. H. W. Monaghan, vicar of St. Mary’s, Timaru, has been appointed Archdeacon of Timaru, in succession to the Ven. H. Purchas, of Geraldine, who resigned the post recently in consequence of ill-health. Prior to Mr Purchas being appointed, the office was filled by the Rev. J. A. Julius, who later was made Dean at Christchurch Cathedral. Except during Archdeacon Purchas’s tenure of office, the Archdeaconry of Timaru and Westland had always been held by the incumbent of St. Mary’s. The Ven. H. W. Harper was Archdeacon for a long period, and the Ven. J. A. Jacob also held the appointment.
