THE WEATHER
Mr F. L. Woolcs. Wind moderate to fresh southerly to easterly; weather changeable, with an occasional shower likely. Outlook for week ending January sth:—Wind mainly easterly to southerly; weather mainly unsettled, with occasional showers. Dominion Meteorologist. The anti-cyclone over New Zealand is gradually moving eastwards. An Intense cyclone is centred off the New South Wales coast, while pressure is high over Tasmania. Expect northeasterly to northerly winds, moderate but freshening, and reaching gale force at times in Cook and Foveaux Straits, changing to southerly soon in the south. Seas rather rough about Cook and Foveaux Straits; otherwise smooth to moderate, but rising. Weather cloudy to overcast, with much mist, fog and scattered light rain; later rain becoming more general.
