The “Daily Mail’s” Nice correspondent says Major Coats, a member of the cotton thread firm, playing baccarat against the open bank for stakes of £4OOO left the table to get refreshments. He instructed the croupier to continue £4OOO bets till he returned. He fell into conversation with a friend, forgetting the time, and when he returned he found he owed £60,000.
