MOTORIST KILLED.
CAR SKIDS AND OVERTURNS. DRIVER CRUSHED BENEATH. By Telegraph—Press Association WANGANUI, July 23. A fatality occurred on the AucklandWellington highway, thirteen miles on the Hawera side of Wanganui, this afternoon, when a five-seater tourer skidded, left the road, and overturned. The car was travelling towards Wanganui, and was driven by Reuben Allan Benbrook (employed by McGruers, Ltd., Hawera), whose parents reside in Wanganui. He was thrown beneath the vehicle as it turned, receiving the full weight of it about the head and shoulders. He was dead before he could be extricated. A young lady, whose name is not known, was a passenger; also a man who is believed to be named Nelson A. Strand. Fencing wire held the car off the lady, and probably saved her life. She escaped with severe injuries to her legs, but was able to travel by a passing service car to Hawera. The other passenger, it is understood, was not hurt. Medical aid and an ambulance were summoned from Wanganui, but on arrival the passengers had left the scene of the accident on the journey north. Deceased was a single man, 21 years of age. The lady was brought to Wanganui.
