THE BUDGET.
NOT READY TILL AUGUST. By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH. July 14. The Prime Minister (the Hon. G. W. Forbes) hopes to bring down the budget to the House cf Representatives before the end of August, and on that hope depends his chance of being able to leave for the Imperial Conference at the latest date, August 26th. "I am anxious to bring forward the Budget as early as possible," the Prime Minister told a reporter this evening. “Of course, the accounts have first to be closed and audited, and that delays it considerably. There is a good length of time taken in settling ai d printing the accounts, and it is absolutely necessary that these should be completed, for the Budget is based upon them. I cannot tell the exact date when I shall bring it dow T n. but it will be toward the end of August.” Imperial Conference. Whether he would be able to get away for the Imperial Conference depended upon the bringing down of the Budget, for then he would be able to indicate what measures the Government had to put through for tre rest of the session Sir Joseph Ward. The late Sir Joseph Ward, Mr Forbes Said, in reply to a question, had held an extraordinary position in the Caoinet, and there was no intention of replacing him.
