FATAL COLLISION
CYCLIST KILLED INSTANTLY. By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, July 14. A collision between a motor-cycle and a bicycle opposite Lever Bros. fac-„ tory in Jackson Street, Petone, last evening, resulted in the death of the cyclist, and serious injuries to the mo-tor-cyclist. Those concerned in the accident were:— Killed —Francis Edmund Blake (45), of Elizabeth Street, Moera. Injured—Lawson John August (21), Rand wick Road, Lower Hutt. At the time of the accident. Blake, who was a married man with a family, and was employed at the Gear Company’s meat works, at Petone, was riding his bicycle towards the pipe bridge preparatory to turning towards Moera, when he was struck by August, who was riding in the same direction. Both men were thrown to the bitumen track, Blake receiving among other injuries a fracture of the skull. Death was almost instantaneous. Lawson, who is an insurance agent, received severe injuries to his head and right thigh; and also suffered from severe concussion. He was taken to hospital still unconscious, and was not identified until a late hour.
