SHOOTING

TRIANGULAR MATCH. GUN CLUB WINS SECOND TEST. On Saturday afternoon the second stage of the triangular shoot between the South Canterbury Gun Club, the Timaru Defence Rifle Club, and the Timaru Miniature Rifle Club, was fired on the Gun Club’s grounds at Saltwater Creek. The conditions were ten men a side, and 10 clay birds; first barrel to count three points and second two points. The day was perfect for a clay bird shoo* and interest was very keen. Some of the riflemen were not much at home with the clays, as was shown by their scores. At the same time some very good shooting was registered. R. E. Mclllwrick and W. Duncan shot the possible on the first barrel. W. R. Grant and D. Slowell also shot the possible, using the second barrel only once. S. Bowers was next best with nine first barrels, and one miss. During the afternoon the Gun Club treated the visitors to afternoon tea. At the conclusion of the shoot. Mr W. Stevens, president of the South Canterbury Gun Club, extended a welcome to the visitors, and said it gave him great pleasure to have the other teams on the ground. He was pleased to see the interest that was being taken in the shoot, and hoped it would continue. The day’s shoot had proved a win for his Club. The scores; Gun Club 227, Defence 152, Miniature 133. added to the open range shoot, still left the Gun Club in the lead, the totals being. Gun Club 593, Defence 542, Miniature 533.
