THE WEATHER.
Mr F. L. Wooles. Wind moderate to fresh south to xst; weather fair at first, but inclined to become unsettled later and cold. Outlook for week ending July 14:— Wind mainly easterly to southerly; weather more or less fair at first. Expect fair rainfall during the latter part of the period. Dominion Meteorologist. A cyclone is now moving from the west towards Norfolk Island. An anticyclone still covers southern New Zealand. Expect winds south to east, light to moderate over the South Island, but moderate to strong thence northwards, reaching gale force at times in Cook trait and the far north. Seas rough north of Kaikoura and in the Cook Strait area; elsewhere smooth to moderate. Weather unsettled in and north of Cook Strait, with fairly general rain, and some heavy falls in the Auckland province, with flooding in places; mainly fine elsewhere, but some scattered coastal showers in the eastern portions of the South Island. Temperatures cold.
