Mr C. L. Orbell has been appointed a member of the board of trustees of the Timaru Racecourse, vice the late Mr E. R. Guinness.
Mr W. J. Dailey, of Waimate, has been appointed a member of the revaluation committee for the Canterbury district.
Mr A. E. A. Watkins, Timaru borough electrical engineer, has been granted leave to attend the conference of electrical engineers, to be held in. Wellington next week. A cable message from London reports that congratulations from all parts of the world were on Saturday received by the King and Queen on the celebration of the thirty-seventh anniversary of their wedding.
At yesterday’s meeting of the Mackerrte County Council the chairman (Mr C. J. Talbot), welcomed Mr F. J. Carter, the newly-elected representative of the Opuha Riding, and congratulated him on his victory at the election.
The death of Mr D. Stevenson, who for 23 years had been in the employ of the Mackenzie County Council as ganger and patrolman, was referred to at yesterday’s meeting of the Council, when the following motion moved by Mr A. F. Campbell, was carried in silence; “That this Council regrets exceedingly the death of one of its valued servants, Mr D. Stevenson, who has been upwards of twenty-three years in the service of the Council, and Juring that time has been exceedingly diligent and sincere in the way he has | filled the position.”
