HOSPITAL BOARDS.
ESTIMATES UNDER REVIEW. By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, May 31. The Public Health Department is busy going through Hospital Boards’ estimates. In view of the Dominion’s economic position, every effort is being made to check extravagant expenditure, but the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy (Minister of Public Health) stated to-day that there was no suggestion of a decrease in the efficiency of the hospital system, nor was it proposed to throw any additional burden on local ratepayers! A close scrutiny of Hospital Boards’ estimates of capital expenditure this year was operating in absolutely the opposite direction. Other proposals would be made to realise the burden of local ratepayers.
