STEALING CHARGE. By Teltfrapii—Pros* A**oci*Mo# DUNEDIN, April 28. The Supreme Court sessions opened this morning before Mr Justice Kennedy. A charge of sheep-stealing was preferred against Gilbert William Lewis, a runholder near Alexandra. The case was not finished, and the Court adjourned till to-morrow morning. AGGRAVATED ASSAULT. By Telegraph—Press Assoc'*atloe AUCKLAND, April 28. Harold Sarfield Holt (25) was charged to-day with assaulting his wife, from whom he was legally separated, with intent to do grievous bodily harm. The Magistrate, with the assent of the police, reduced the charge to aggravated assault. It was stated that Holt cut his wife behind the ear with a table knife. The Magistrate prohibited him, and ordered him to find £SO surety of good behaviour. LIQUIDATION CASE. By Telegraph—Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, April 28. The judgment of Mr Justice Reed in the case of the Hawera County Electric Company, Ltd., in liquidation, was delivered to-day. It was a motion to determine whether preference shareholders should share in the distribution of assets resulting from the sale of the company’s business to the South Taranaki Power Board. The judge decided that preference and ordinary shareholders should both share in the distribution. ■v MOTORIST DELICENSED, By Telegraph—Press AssociationMASTERTON, April 28. A man named Richard Stalker, of Masterton, who pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court to being intoxicated while in charge of a motor vehicle, was fined £25. His license was cancelled, and he was disqualified from holding a license for two years. Accused’s car, on the evening of April 19th, struck a ’bus on the Car-terton-Masterton road, the damage to the ’bus amounting to about £IOO. AMERICAN CAPTAIN'S OFFENCE. By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 28. Arrested in Albert Park, shortly after noon to-day, Egerton Edward Bulkeley, captain of the City of Winnipeg, appeared at the Police Court this afternoon, charged with wilful indecent exposure. Accused, who is 55 years of age, pleaded guilty, and was fined £lO. Mr A. Smyth, who appeared for accused, said he found himself in a most difficult position. He was a married man, and had been employed by his present shipowners as master for the past 16 years. He had never been in any trouble before. “He cannot explain why he committed this offence,” said Mr Smyth. “It is one of those inexplicable cases,” said the Magistrate (Mr F. K. Hunt), in fining accused £lO. He remarked that it was fortunate for him that the Act was altered recently to enable a fine to be imposed.
