The “Flying” Duchess of Bedford will begin another daring air adventure during the coming week, when piloted by Captain C. D. Barnard, with Mr Robert Little as relief pilot, she will attempt a record flight from London to Capetown and back. She will use the now historic Fokker named Spider, in which the record flight to India and back was made last year. She hopes to complete the double journey in 19 days. (The Duchess of Bedford, who is 63 years of age, is herself an able pilot and has proved herself to be a daring and successful airwoman. After a number of Continental flights as a passenger the Duchess acquired a small ’plane of her own and learned to fly herself, exhibiting great skill in the control of the machine. Three times since last Sunday, when he started from Los Angeles, his line from, the aeroplane which is towing him has broken, but he has merely glided to earth, and made perfect landings each time. He has covered 500 to 600 miles daily, sleeping at a hotel each night. To-day he came from Indianapolis, slipped his towrope at an altitude of 5000 ft, and dropped down half an hour later in front of the hangar. FLIGHT COMPLETED. ANOTHER REMARKABLE RECORD.
