CASUALTIES. DROWNED MAN IDENTIFIED.
By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 5. The body found in the water at Muritai has been identified at that of G. Hardie. It is assumed that he went in to bathe and got into difficulties. His clothes were found on the beach. A CHILD’S DEATH. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 5. A mother had a child of two sitting on her knee. He touched a hot metal teapot with his bare arm, and though the burn healed rapidly, the arm swelled. The child had a fit and died. At the inquest the medical evidence was that toxaemia developed from the burn. DEATH RESULTS FROM FALL. By Telegraph—Prasa Association. NELSON, April 5. The death occurred at Nelson Hospital to-day of Eric V. Rodley (33), who had been in the institution since Monday, suffering from a severely fractured skull, the result of falling from an upper-storey window at the Owen Hotel last Sunday night. Deceased, who was employed on plumbing work at the Owen, went to bed at about 10 ocloc’k on Sunday night, and was found on the ground beneath the window of his room next morning. There was an earthquake shock at the Owen during Sunday night, and it is surmised that deceased, when leaving his room, may have mistaken a window for a door. Deceased leaves a wife and one child.
