WAGES PROTECTION ACT. By Telegraph—Proa* Association. WELLINGTON, April 5. In a case under the Wages Protection Act, claims amounting to £Bl9 were made by sub-contractors against two builders, who were engaged in erecting three houses. One of the builders got into difficulties, and the S.M. said he had hidden himself for 3i months, and could not be served with legal notices. Afteflr that he was arrested, and adjudged a bankrupt, whereupon the Official Assignee stepped In and wanted proof of the claims. The point was whether the plaintiffs had a prior claim to the other creditors. The S.M. held that the brothers’ action could not defeat their rights, and orders were made for the whole amount.
