PARNELL SEAT.

UNITED CANDIDATE SELECTED. By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 4. Mr W. A. Donald, a brother of the Hon J. B. Donald, has been chosen as the official Government candidate to contest the Parnell by-election. The decision was made at a meeting of the United Party representatives this afternoon. As a young man, Mr Donald went to England, and was educated at Oxfora University. He studied law, and later practised in London, being a barrister of the Inner Temple. He was a London director of the firm of A. B. Donald when the war broke out. He joined the King Edward Horse, and later the Inniskilling Dragoons, and was three and a half years on active service. Since returning to New Zealand Mr Donald has been an active member of the Auckland Golf Club, and a supporter of Rugby football. MR JENKINS RETURNING TO AUCKLAND. By Telegraph—Press Association. TONGARIRO, April 4. Mr H. R. Jenkins, ex-member for Parnell, has been attending the Rotary Conference. He is leaving for Auckland via Rotorua, and will arrive at Auckland on Sunday. ELECTION FIXED FOR MAY 7th. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 4. Wednesday. May 7th, has been fixed by the Government as the date for the Parnell by-election. Finality on the matter was reached by Cabinet to-day, and an announcement setting out the above decision will be made to-morrow by the Minister in charge of the Electoral Department. (Hon. W. A.
