CROQUET

SECOND DAYS PLAY. Play during the second day of the South Canterbury Croquet Association's croquet tournament continued to be as keen as on the previous day. Players from outside clubs—Ashburton, Oamaru. and Temuka —have done extremely well, and these clubs are expected to be well up in the finals. At the conclusion of the play last night, when the results were checked up, it was found that they presented no very great surprises, although in the A. level singles, second round, Mrs Taylor won by 26 —0. This score, however, gives no indication of the game, some excellent strokes being played on both sides. A score of this description is more often found in Dominion championship games than in a tournament conducted by a local Croquet Association. As on the opening day, ladies on the three lawns dispensed light refreshments to the players. To-day will be the last day of the tournament, and the final games will be concluded on the Timaru lawns about four o’clock this afternoon, after which the prizes and trophies will be presented by the president of the Association, Mrs W. Taylor. The following are the results of yesterday’s play:— A. LEVEL SINGLES. Second Round. Miss Bremner beat Mrs Fraser, 26 19. Miss Bremner won by default from Mrs Hall. Mrs Taylor beat Miss .
