CITY NOISES.
APPEAL FOR ABATEMENT. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received February 20, 11.35 p.m.) SYDNEY, February 20. A deputation from the New Health Society is seeking Government aid toward the abatement of noises. The chief complaint was against trams, motor-cycles, motor horns, roosters, barking dogs and rock drills, which were described as hideous and seriously affecting public health, and causing loss of efficiency. The Minister of Health (Dr Arthur), sympathised with the deputation, and promised to make representations to Cabinet. He ventured the opinion that jazz and the “talkies,” which he dubbed as “squawkies,” were even worse than anything the deputation mentioned.
