The Irish Free State census figures just issued reveal that the country possesses the world’s highest percentage of bachelors. There is also a marked tendency to late marriages. Between the ages of 20 and 30 the percentage of bachelors is eighty, and between 30 and 35 sixty-two. The next highest known percentage of bachelors is in Sweden, where comparative figures between 25 and 30 is sixty-four. Corresponding figures are: England and Wales forty-five; America thirty-five. The returns also show that one out of every four women remaining in the Irish Free State never marries.
