SUICIDE ON STEAMER By Taiagraph—j.juoaUtion WELLINGTON, August 27. A steerage passenger on the Taihiti who was found with his throat cut, was named J. McGatty He was on his way to Brisbane. KNOCKED DOWN BY CAR. By Tclegxarb—Preaa Association. GISBORNE, August 27. Reno Kinnamont (18), was knocked off a cycle and seriously injured last night by a motor lorry, which overtook her riding homeward at dusk. The girl was found later in an empty house, formerly occupied by her family, half a mile from the scene of the accident. She told a story of being picked up by the driver of a closed car, but apparently had a confused recollection of riding some distance in a lorry. It is thought that the driver of the lorry let her down at the gate of the deserted dwelling, believing that it be her home, and that the girl was not badly hurt. She was later admitted to hospital, it is believed suffering from a fractured skull. The driver did not report the accident to the police, and early reports suggested the utmost callousness, but later information dispelled the suggestion.
