LESS RACESG.
DISCUSSED IN AUSTRALIA. (United Press Association—By Elaotrie Telegraph—Copyright. ) SYDNEY, August 23. The Victorian and New South Wales Governments are considering the advisability of curtailing the number of horse and pony race meetings. The Victorian Government proposes to reduce the number of racing days by fifty. Mostly mid-week suburban and pony meetings will be affected, which are adjudged responsible for grave economic loss. An agitation has now begun in Sydney, where there is racing practically five days a week. The “Sun,” in an editorial, says: “The whole business of mid-week pony racing is a reflection on the intelligence and serious purpose of the people of this State, providing horrible examples of ill-spent lives.”
