IMPRESSIVE COMPARISONS.

T... the Editor of the "Timaru Herald." Sir. —As a visitor to Timaru, and one familiar with Titahi Bay, 1 am a little* Sl Viyised ah the disparaging remarks of your correspondent, who signs himself, or herself, as “Deceived.” “Disagreeable” would be better. I have seen Titahi Bay, which indeed is very beautiful, of its kind, but I do not think it can compare with Timaru’s Bay. Who could wish more than the beautiful gardens running along the best part of the beach, which, as far as I can see, are always kept in good order. I think “Deceived” must lack taste of beauty. Titahi Bay lacks all accommodation, such as bathing sheds, tea-rooms, and the natural way in which the whole beach is laid out. If “Deceived” lias a liking for water, he or she has only to go into the bathing sheds. I was rather surprised myself, as to the accommodation which is provided. Perhaps I have not looked far, but I have visited every bay in Wellington, and I have never seen a bathing shed laid out to suit your requirements. For instance, have any or Wellington’s bathing sheds accommodation with several showers, so that the bathers will not be stumbling over one another. There are also wringers, so that the bather can wring out his “togs’* instead at climbing into a trani-ear with the water running into your coat pocket, or perhaps down the nearest person’s neck. Is “Deceived” suffering from optical illusion, that he must mistake the guns for rubbish tips ? May I conclude bv saying ■ that I admire you for sticking up for your owm beaches, but to my opinion, and many others, Caroline Bay is the equal to many, and greatly superior to some of New Zealand’s bays.—l am, etc., VISITOR. Timaru, February 24.
