OBITUARY.
MRS' T. SANDS. There passed away at the Timaru Hospital on the 4tli inst. the oldest lady resident of Pareora. Flat, in the person oif Mrs Thomas Sands, who died in her seventy-sixth year, after a short illness. Born in County Antrim, Ireland, she left with her husband in 187 S, arriving at Lyttelton in January 1879, by tlio sailing ship Waikato, and completing the journey to Timaru by train. Mrs Sands first lived under the Terrace, close to the Canterbury Meat Companies property. The country at that time was in tussock, there being only two other bouses on the Flat. Feeling the loneliness, she removed to water Creek, living there for about a year. The next move was to Gabites’ farm, Kingsdown. Later her husband acquired a small place at Normanby, where they reared a herd of cows, a fair share of the work falling to her. They next bought a farm at Pareora Flat, besfue what is called the Spring Creek, and resided there for close on forty years. Being oi ;■ kmo l d position, Mrs Sands was loved by all. Tlie deceased lady l leaves a, widower, a daughter (Mrs John Ivernohan, Winchester), a son (Mr AA r . G. Sands, Pareora), and 10 grandchildren. The funeral took place on Thursday at the Pareora Cemetery, tlio service at the house and graveside being conducted by the Rev. 11. Begg, Ilighfield.
