Mr Jones, in moving that Mr Orbell be re-elected president, congratulated the Society on the good work done during the year under Mr Orbell’s leadership. ’ A comprehensive vote of tlignks was' accorded the police, lady helpers, honorary inspectors, and Press' for their co-operation aiid assistance 1 during the- year. Mr Elwofthyj in moving the vote of thanks, said the police in South Canterbury were’ reallive wires, and had been of great assistance to the Society. The lady helpers and the honorary inspectors, had also been a tower of strengtij. Mr Jones said that the Society had very worthy objects, and was deserv-' ing of more support than it received? Ho would like to see the membership list increased to a larger extent this’ year, especially in view of tlie factthat a street day was not likely. The chairman said he would like to see the country districts display more interest. It would be a good oppor-* 1 unity lor Geraldine and Waitaate to take the matter up. He agreed with • Air Jones in regard to membership, and said that some endeavour should 1 be made to increase the list. Relerence was made to the good ivork accomplished by the inspector 1-Mr G. Gliddon), several members stating that it would be bard to secure a better man.
